A81 closure at Balfron Station aqueduct

We have received an update from Scottish Water on their plans for the repair work to the bridge at Balfron Station:

Our contractors, George Leslie Ltd, will be starting work on bridge repairs on the 18th of September and we will be closing a section of the A81 for approximately 3 months. Attached is a postcard which has been delivered to our customers in the area impacted by the planned road closure and diversion. Road signs will start to appear preparing road users in the area for the closure.

Scottish Water postcard

In addition to this postcard and local signs Scottish Water will be using Facebook to push out some targeted information about this work to people in the area.

Scottish Water appreciate this is going to be disruptive for the local communities and people passing through this area. If you would like any further information at this time please feel free to email or call m Scott Fraser, Corporate affairs Regional Manager, Mobile@: 07875872872 Scottish Water – www.scottishwater.co.uk

See our Roads page for information on how to raise roads issues with Stirling Council and the Community Council.

Gladman Returns! – Planning application 17/00434/PPP

On 31 May 2017, Gladman Developments filed the expected planning application for the site on Campsie Road. A programme of urgent consultation was agreed at the Strathblane Community Council meeting on 12 June 2017.

  • A supplement with information and questionnaire is being issued with the June 2017 edition of the Blane Valley Bulletin.
  • We are also arranging drop-in sessions at the Village Club (28 June and 24 July; 2.30-8.30pm) and
  • Special community council meeting on 31 July 2017 (7.30pm, Village Club).

Please complete the online survey/questionnaire.

If you can’t fill it in online, you can drop a paper answer in the box at Strathblane Library.

Please encourage family and neighbours to take part in this important consultation. The questionnaire also seeks input on the types of new housing that may actually be needed in the local area.

Everyone’s priorities and views are different, so it is vital that as many residents as possible make their own submissions directly to Stirling Council, as well as responding to this survey. The community council does not decide the planning application.

More information and background, around this site, and Local Development Plan is on our dedicated web page here.

Health and Social Welfare Update May 2017

Health and Social Welfare Update May 2017
Models of neighbourhood Care: Clackmannan and Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership.
The local Integration Board is planning to pilot a model of Neighbourhood Care in Rural west Stirlingshire namely Balfon, Killearn, Drymen, Buchlyvie and Strathblane. It is based on the Buurtzorg Onion Model developed in Holland. In it the individual needing care is at the centre of the onion surrounded by rings of care initially from informal networks (friends, neighbours and family) and then a multidisciplinary team. The meeting Grace and I attended was part of the initial engagement for the project. The next stage is to develop the business case and brief and train staff before agreeing Phase 2 by November. Staff will be asked to volunteer to be included. More info in due course.
Progress with using the Dementia Support fund
The library has been provided with 4 iTunes cards to support the playlist project.
The piano in Blanefield House has been tuned.
The Dementia signage in the Kirk Rooms and church has been ordered and will be up soon for all to see. They are the same design as those in the care home which should help those residents who go to Cuppa Time. The Village Club is interested in putting up similar signage.
There are ongoing discussions with various potential users of a community keyboard. A competitive price has been offered by Haydock Music in Milngavie.
We propose making a small donation to the lunch club to help support their special events such as Christmas and birthdays.
Ideas for Ears
Ideas for ears are looking for local people to review customer environments such as cafes and other public places as venues for people with a hearing impairment, an increasing number these days. They have on online review form for comments on venues at www.ideasforears.org.uk
My Plan
We were reminded by a local GP at the Balfron meeting of the importance of developing our own My Plan and of organising things like Power of Attorney while we are still able. Many delayed discharges happen because it takes time to organise Power of Attorney if it is needed.

Dumgoyne and the Campsie Fells in Strathblane

Welcome Evelyn MacDougall to Strathblane Community Council

Evelyn MacDougall has been co-opted onto Strathblane Community Council by a unanimous vote at the meeting on 9 May 2017.

Evelyn replaces Rob Davies, who was elected to Stirling Council and could no longer serve as a community councillor.

We are delighted to have Evelyn volunteer to fill this vacancy. We would love to hear from more community members who might be interested in the work of the community council.

Broadband update April 2017

From the broadband working group led by Killearn Community Council, we have an updated list of postcodes in Strathblane & Blanefield, where fibre broadband (BT Infinity) is available. See the two lists below. List 1 confirms addresses with Infinity available (but does not promise superfast speed). List 2 is the postcodes where there are plans, but not yet service, or where it depends on the exact premises.

The full report of the working group is here. Information from Digital Scotland is here. Do contact us via the website if you have any information to add/challenge what is the official version here.
