Proposal for 11 new homes below Devil’s Elbow – Planning application 20/00564/FUL

Builder Adam (Scotland) Ltd. with support of Rural Stirling Housing Association (RSHA) has made a planning application to build seven detached houses and a block of four one-bedroom flats on the site below the Devil’s Elbow, entering the village on the A81 from Milngavie.

Full details of the application, and consultation responses are on Stirling’s Public Access planning portal here.

The site is designated for housing already in the Local Development Plan; a number of developers have considered developing the site, but this is the first one that we are aware of to progress to a full planning application.

The housing association RSHA supports the application. Their letter refers to the demand for affordable housing within the village, including over 100 applicants specifically requesting one-bedroom properties in Strathblane.

From the community council’s perspective, a particular disappointment is that there is no pedestrian link from the proposed houses to Old Mugdock Road, so that residents will have to walk out by the main road to reach shops, school and other amenities.

Neighbours of the site have already been notified in the usual way, and have written to the planners already with various concerns.

Any other residents with comments should submit them as soon as possible to Stirling Council via the planning portal or by email to planning@stirling.gov.uk. It would be very helpful if you copy your comments to planning@strathblanecc.org.uk as well.
